Educators, criminologists and social workers all agree that the most critical hours for inner-city children are between 3pm-6pm and during the summer months. It is during these hours that children are most at risk to predators, the streets and themselves. UrbanPromise Toronto uses these hours and creates safe environments where children experience nurturing care and attention. Our programs for children ages 5-10 are developed out of the belief that self-confidence, academic success, social skills, physical health and spiritual growth are all necessary elements of healthy development in children. Where we workThere are 3 Child Outreach communities across the city:
ProgramsAfter-School Program (ASP)ASP runs during the academic school year with the aim to equip children with necessary tools necessary for social and academic success. Programs are operated by safe and caring staff and volunteers. ASP includes:
UPT Mentorship program runs with the aim of creating positive role models for children in hopes that children will emulate the good choices their mentors represent. The program pairs caring adults with children that may need special care and attention. Mentorship activities include one-on-one tutoring, life-skills guidance, trips, and just hanging out! March BreakSpring break is a time for fun, so UPT launches a week of creative games, activities and field trips. During the week, outside volunteer groups often come and run theme days, carnivals, and other special activities. Summer Day CampsOver 300 children are given the opportunity to enjoy six weeks of fun through UPT's summer day camps! Camps run from 10:00am - 4:30pm during the months of July and August. It's here that children experience care, learn valuable social skills, and make treasured friends. |
